This
is one of the most unique lights located in Maine. It is at the end of a
0.8 mile-long stone jetty extending out over the water. The light was built
in 1888. The breakwater construction began in 1881 and wasn't completed
until 1889. Construction demanded that makeshift lights be moved and re-established
at the unfinished end of the breakwater each time work was suspended. The
light which stands now wasn't built until 1902, after the completion of
the breakwater. In 1964 the light was fully automated and in 1990 further
renovations were completed. This light stands 39 feet above water and the
light has a range of 17 nautical miles.
